Norwegian Buhund is a middle sized Spitz which belongs to a group of FCI
5 Spitz and the primitive dogs. The word “bu” means a dwelling, place of
residence, yard or a house in English and “hund” means a dog. The
ancestors of Buhund originated from the times of Vikings. The roods of
the breed reach for the end of the 17th century when it was used as a
guard dog, shepherd and hunting dog. These qualities still can be seen
in the Buhund.
Buhund is active, intelligence and temperamental dog. Nowadays Buhund is
mainly used as a social dog but one can also train it as a versatile
hobby dog. Outside Finland Buhund is still used somewhat in hunting and
shepherding. The colour of Buhund can be yellowish or black, with little
white marks. The size of a male is 43-47 cm and a female 41-45 cm.
